Suggester says, "This image made such an impact on me that I had to ask the photographer more about the story behind it. Apparently he passed by the house when this woman asked him if he is a journalist. She wanted to show how her family's meager living conditions. He answered that he was not but, that he at least could put up a photo on the web and try to tell her story. They pay a 130 € in rent, and for that they get a very damp home without no glass where there are window openings. At the moment when he made this shot she said: "I simply don't have anything to give to my daughter for breakfast." This woman is a Gypsy, and people around here do not trust Gypsies, but as anyone can see, this family truly lives under horrible conditions, and nobody here cares about it. That's sadly how it is."

Description

I thank you all, and please don't be angry on me that I haven't responded to your messages! :ashamed:
Dear friend *absolutpe was to kind and he didn't mention that I told him that I also do not quite trust Gypsies. Please, don't get me wrong, but if you see Gypsy at one moment begging, and at the other moment coming out of the expensive car which you can't afford to yourself, then you would not trust them quite too.
But I have friends among them, and I believe that it is just another side of their main character: intensity, which makes them so interesting and charming. Many of them whom I know are also hard working people.
Although I can't consider myself very socially sensitive person (when it comes to photography, than photography itself is only what interest me), people in area where I live are too blind for other people's misfortune. Social neglect in this country has reached a high branch. We've here forgotten what it is Welfare State, but we are reminded what were the first historical forms of capitalism, with all its brutality.
On the other hand, it is very indicative that this subject intrigued person who lives in Sweden (*absolutpe), which is the embodiment of the welfare state.
Finally, it is not important how rich a country is, but how much it takes care about its citizens.
As somebody noticed, this woman holds a cigarette in her hand, but, I have to mention: I gave it to her; she don't have money for cigarettes too (her, holding cigarette is my error regarding these photo, because it loses its credibility, but this is not arranged photo). On the other hand, smokers are most frequent among the poorest population.
Editors relocated this photo from category "Miscellaneous" to category "Photojournalism". I can't quite agree with this, because I don't see that it is appropriate to separate the creative from a documentary. In both, true (authenticity) is only important.
